I am passionate about finding ways to help teens navigate the often difficult road of adolescence - this has been my life’s work.
As a classroom teacher for almost 20 years, the emotional support I provided to students hopefully helped to ease some of the challenges my students faced during this stage. As a researcher, my work focuses on the roles that self-compassion and mindfulness play in promoting well-being in youth. I create and test programs that provide teens with tools to help build resilience and strengthen positive mental health.
I have co-created the curriculum Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens (formerly known as Making Friends with Yourself), and am author of the book The Self-Compassion Workbook for Teens: Mindfulness and Compassion Skills to Overcome Self-Criticism and Embrace Who You Are; (New Harbinger Publishers).
As a mindfulness practitioner for over 40 years, a mindfulness and self-compassion teacher, and a lifelong educator with 18 years of classroom experience, I frequently give talks, conduct workshops, and teach classes in self-compassion and mindfulness in educational settings and in the community.
